Potjie Information & Related Questions

How do I prepare my new potjie for cooking?
To prepare for cooking the following steps are recommended:

  • Wash out thoroughly with boiling water and dry.
  • Coat the inside with cooking oil (or vegetable fat) and heat until the pot begins to smoke.
  • When cool enough, using a paper towel, wipe inside clean. Repeat until towel wipes clean.
  • The potjie pot is now ready for use.
  • The more you use it the better it becomes.
How do I store my potjie pot when not in use?
After each use, wash the potjie pot and dry over heat source to remove excess moisture. Coat the inside with cooking oil or Spray and Cook. Store your potjie with the lid off and absorbent paper inside.
What is the difference between oil cured and enamel coating?
Our traditional range of potjies are oil cured which means they have no coating other than a protective layer of vegetable oil to prevent rusting and to help with curing during storage.

Our enamel range of potjies are fully coated on the inside and out, in a tough, durable vitreous enamel coating. These products therefore do not need any treatment or curing and will not rust. To preserve the enamel coating it is recommended that wooden utensils are used.

Can I buy a lid only for my potjie pot?
Yes of course. We realise that sometimes potjie pots can lose their lids. To make sure that you don’t have to throw your well-seasoned Best Duty potjie pot away, we sell lids only through our appointed distributors (see our Where to Buy web page) or purchase directly from our factory at 200 Watt Road, Pretoria West. Do you have the dimensions of a No 3 potjie pot?
For your convenience, all the specs on our Best Duty potjie range, including dimensions, pot weight and volume are listed in our specifications document which you can view here.

Where can I purchase your products?

Please view our ‘Where to buy’ web page for a comprehensive list of our Distributors, Retailers and Wholesalers by Region. You can also purchase some products in our online shop.

Do you sell your products in Namibia?
Yes we do. We have cross-border distributors and re-sellers in Namibia, Botswana, Lesotho and Swaziland. Please view our ‘Where to buy’ web page for a comprehensive list by Country.
Can I purchase your product for export?
Yes we sell our products for export. Our potjies are currently exported to Australia, New Zealand, USA, UK, Germany, Netherlands, Switzerland, Austria and Saudi Arabia.

Please email your business details as well as global location to bestduty@besaans.co.za and someone from export sales will forward our export T & C’s to you, or you can view them here.

Online Shop

What can I order online?

You can order from the selected range of enamel products that are available in our online shop. Should a product temporarily be out of stock, it will reflect as such and you will not be able to add it to your cart. 

What are my payment options?

We have various payment options available when you check out. These include: PayFast, Master and Visa Credit Cards and debit cards and direct EFT.

Is it safe to shop with you?

We know that security is very important when buying online, so we use the latest technology to ensure that all your personal and credit card details are fully protected and remain completely confidential. Our online transactions are managed by PayFast, a highly reputable third party company that is 100% safe. PayFast is endorsed by all major South African banks, as well as by Visa and Mastercard.

How much does shipping cost?

Do you ship internationally?

Currently, we only ship from our online shop to customers who live within South Africa.

Can I collect my order from your warehouse?

Our warehouse is not open to the public for collection of online purchases.  

Which courier service do you use?

Our deliveries are facilitated by Skynet, a leading local courier.

Can I return an order?

Yes, should you wish to return anything bought from us online, please call 012 380 4601 or email bestduty@besaans.co.za and we will gladly assist you.

 You will be responsible for the shipping cost of the return and replacement. In line with the Consumer Protection Act, please note that we are under no obligation to refund a product that is not faulty.

How long do I have to return a product?

Products need to be returned in their original packaging, in a saleable condition and accompanied by the original tax invoice, within 7 days of purchase. Should a product be found to be defective after this period, it can still be returned subject to each product’s respective warranty.

What if I receive the wrong product?

This should not happen. However, in the unlikely event please email bestduty@besaans.co.za – we will arrange to collect the item from you, investigate what went wrong, and promptly send you the correct product.

How can I find out when a product will be back in stock?

It is often difficult to say with certainty when products will be back in stock, so we advise you email us on bestduty@besaans.co.za and leave your details so that we can contact you once the product is back in stock.   

What is a defect?

A defect is an imperfection that renders the product un-useable.

Do you offer refunds?

We do not offer cash refunds.

What are the refund options available for a return?

The available options are dependent on the reason for the return, and include the following:

  • Replacement of Defective Product – If you have received a product in a defective or damaged condition, you may request a replacement product at no shipping cost to you. Please email bestduty@besaans.co.za
  • Exchange / Refund – We do not offer cash refunds – if you want to return a product for exchange you may do so and choose another product of equal or higher value. You will be responsible for the additional cost in the item and for the shipping cost of the return and replacement. In line with the Consumer Protection Act, please note that we are under no obligation to refund a product that is not faulty.
How long does it take to process my return?

Once received by our warehouse, your return request will be processed within 3 – 7 working days.

Can I return sale products?

Yes, sale and promotional products can be returned.

Please note that you will be responsible for the additional shipping cost of the return and replacement, should it not be deemed a defective product.

Can I change my delivery address?

We unfortunately can’t make changes to your delivery address once payment has been received.

Can I become a reseller of your products?

How do I apply for a credit facility?

Can you brand the Best Duty products with our company logo?
Yes we can. Due to the rising interest in branding of corporate logos onto our fabulous product range, we have included a dedicated webpage called ‘Custom Design’ that gives you all the necessary information.
Can you produce a cast iron product to my specification with my company logo?
